APOSTLES' CREED
The Apostles’ Creed is the oldest creed that has come down to us, composed in the 2nd century.
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from there He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
NICAEN CREED
The Nicene Creed was adopted at the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea in the year 325, in the city of Nicaea.
We believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten from the Father before all ages, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of the same essence as the Father; through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven; he became incarnate by the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary, and was made human.
He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate; he suffered and was buried. The third day he rose again, according to the Scriptures. He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again with glory to judge the living and the dead. His kingdom will never end.
And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life. He proceeds from the Father [and the Son]. With the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified. He spoke through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church. We affirm one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look forward to the resurrection of the dead, and to life in the world to come. Amen.
CONFESSION OF FAITH OF THE ARMENIAN EVANGELICAL CHURCHES
I believe in one Almighty God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—the Creator of heaven and earth.
I believe that man was created in the image of God but fell into sin, and that only by God’s grace can he be freed from the power of sin and be reconciled to the Father.
I believe that our Lord Jesus Christ became incarnate and by His life, teachings, suffering, and death, provided perfect salvation for the human race.
I believe that, having risen from the dead, He is seated at the right hand of the Father and intercedes on our behalf, and that whoever believes in His name receives, freely, forgiveness of sins and eternal life.
I believe that the Holy Spirit works in the hearts of people, convicting them of sin, righteousness, and judgment, and by His power, we receive a new and holy nature.
I believe that the Lord Jesus Christ has a visible Church on earth, whose ordinances are Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
I believe that the Holy Scriptures were written by divine inspiration and consist of the Old and New Testaments, and that they are the sole rule of faith and practice for the Church.
I believe in the glorious return of our Lord, the resurrection of the dead, the eternal condemnation of the wicked, and the eternal life of the righteous.
